Art on the Square 1994-96

This visual arts festival ran for three years in the heart of downtown Cincinnati, centering on Fountain Square for large scale installations and interactive projects to engage the public.  Featuring the work of over 400 artists in dozens of special projects each year, the festival offered both invitational and juried formats, allowing for a wide participation by working regional artists.  Jan Brown Checco was the founder of the festival, and Programming Director for 1994 and 1995.  Her objective was to connect working artists with collectors.  Jan created the process and format for the art program, and arranged for real estate owners to allow installation of temporary galleries in their street level properties for the entire month of May.  Over 10,000 art lovers attended the festival on its opening weekend, and thousands more enjoyed during the run of the exhibitions.
