A group of very well-established Munich artists proposes that nine artists from each of our communities each create a two- dimensional work on slightly modified standard letter-sized paper in cover weight (trimmed to 8.264" x 11", weight 65 lb.) The medium is of choice, and both color or black and white mode are welcome. The original drawing will be photocopied/laser/inkjet printed by the original artist, and returned to the lead artist in your community along with nine photocopies/prints of the original artwork. The lead artist in each community sends, by post, all of the drawings to the other lead artist. Then that artist will distribute the nine copies of each drawing to each artist in their team for the second phase - we will alter and generally make each others' copied drawings something of our own, each of us creating nine new, stand-alone pieces of art. Each artist from Cincinnati would have approximately 2 weeks (starting on April 15) to make their first drawing. We will send our originals plus nine copies to Munich on May 2, and expect the Munich copies to arrive here by May 10. In mid-July all of the modified Cincinnati/Munich drawings will be hand-carried to our Munich partners. This is when a Cincinnati delegation travels to culminate a previous cultural exchange project - dedication of the new "Cincinnati Garden" - a gift from our city to the city of Munich on the occasion of Germany's federal horticultural expo. Artists from our drawing project are welcome to travel at this time (July 25 - August 1) and homestays can be provided by our partner artists. The Munich artist partners have secured Amerikahaus - a museum-quality exhibition space in the heart of Munich - to show our collective works in Spring 2006. It is possible that the exhibition will allow for inclusion of a separate original work from each participating artist in a larger format (unretouched by others.) Hopefully the entire exhibition can travel to Cincinnati after the Munich show for the same kind of display in Spring 2006. Then the show will travel to Cincinnati, Ohio, USA for a two-month exhibition at the University of Cincinnati Galleries on Sycamore. This exhibition is scheduled in conjunction with a ceramics exchange project between Cincinnati's Clay Alliance and ceramists from Nancy, France, whose works will be installed at Cincinnati's Krohn Conservatory Participating Artists: |
