Plaza Medallion
Mosaics for The Cincinnati Garden in Munich, Germany, for the Bundesgartenschau 2005
In the Studio: Jan’s tiles are made with 5 different high fire clays, stamped, carved and slip colored. Glass inlays provide additional details. The conceptual design is based on an aerial view of the City of Cincinnati.
Installation: Suzanne Buehler is the Munich partner artist who created a mosaic medallion for the second plaza. Franco of the Maier Mosaikwerk did the mosaic setting and grouting.
The finished installation in Munich, and anticipation of interaction of children with the artwork.
Realization: The garden was established in 2004, planted with grasses and flowers that are common to the Ohio Valley. The garden has two plazas connected by a meandering pathway, which represent the Ohio River.
