Sidewalk Chalk in Cincinnati |
Sidewalk Chalk is an ephemeral public art form which can amuse or challenge the passerby. Cincinnati had its first experience with a large sidewalk chalk event in 1992 with "Pastels in the Park," a collaboration between the Art Academy of Cincinnati and the Cincinnati Park Board. Organized by Jan Brown Checco, the Lytle Park happening included dozens of professional artists paired with promising high school artists.
The same co-sponsors continued their sidewalk art programming in Art On The Square '94,'95. Then in 1996, the Art Academy of Cincinnati along with Art on The Square co-sponsored ten professional artists who created chalk works on Walnut Street at the Aronoff Center for the Arts. |
